Howard Jones at Northern Lights Theater

June 21 @ 8:00 pm

With Men Without Hats and All Hail The Silence.

It was in 1983 that Howard Jones first burst upon the contemporary music scene with his very English songwriting, pioneering synthesizers and thought provoking lyrics. He set out his manifesto in his very first single (number-three on the UK singles charts), “New Song.” The lyrics called on the listener to challenge their preconceived ideas, to see both sides and “throw off your mental chains.”

Along with “New Song,” the first two albums, Human’s Lib and Dream into Action, brought Howard a host of hits including “Things Can Only Get Better,” “What is Love?,” “Pearl In The Shell,” “Like to Get To know You Well,” “Hide And Seek” (performed at Live Aid), “Look Mama” and “No One Is To Blame,” which reached number one in the US. Howard has sold over 8 million albums across the globe and is one of a select group of British artists who have comprehensively “broken America.” Howard’s triumphant synthesizer-driven debut influenced a generation of electronic and dance musicians.

This year, Howard Jones released a brand new album called Transform. The album sees Howard returning to his electronic pop roots. Says Howard, “It’s been a long time since I have made an album full of electronic based pop tunes, I know it’s the record many of you have been waiting patiently for.” On at least two of the new songs, Howard is collaborating with the electronic US producer BT. “I have been a huge fan of BT’s for many years,” comments Howard “we finally met and have been working and developing two new songs which I am really excited about, he is beyond doubt one of the most gifted electronic musicians out there.”

Widely regarded as a pioneer of synths such as the Roland Juno 60, Jupiter 8 and Moog Prodigy Howard has worked with contemporary electronic artists such as Ferry Corsten, Eric Prydz and Cedric Gervais. Howard enjoyed 14 weeks in the Billboard dance chart top 40 with his collaboration with Cedric on a new version of ‘Things Can Only Get Better’.

Howard continues to operate at the forefront of music technology in both his live shows and productions. 2016’s Engage live shows ambitiously combined Howard working with visuals in his live shows creating a multimedia experience for the concert goers who could also interact with the shows using an innovative App on their phones.

Howard Jones continues to tour across the world every year performing to hundreds of thousands of music fans.

His current high-tech electric band features Jonathan Atkinson on electric drums, Robbie Bronnimann on sequencing and additional keyboards, Emily Dolan Davies on electronic percussion and Robin Boult on guitar. The show also features bespoke visuals.

In 2017, following a tour with Bare Naked Ladies, Howard headlined the “Retro-Futura” tour in the USA. Not stopping there, in 2018, Howard performed a 38-date sold-out tour for his “Solo-The Songs & The Stories” show. These intimate performances took the audience on a personal trip through Howard’s 30-year music career. At these shows Howard shared behind-the-scenes stories and revealed the inspiration behind the songs.

Also in 2018, Howard released Best 1983-2017 with his new record label Cherry Red. The collection features 42 tracks from his career and all-new remastered releases of his classic albums.
